Terry Sejnowski, Ph.D., internationally renowned pioneer in AI, will kick off Virginia Commonwealth University’s One VCU Research Weeks 2023 with a keynote lecture at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 10, at the VCU Institute for Contemporary Art, 601 W. Broad St.

Sejnowski, professor and head of the Computational Neurobiology Laboratory at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies in California and author of the 2018 book, “The Deep Learning Revolution,” will give a talk titled: “Chat GPT and the Talking Dog.”

Sejnowski is a pioneer of neurobiology, using both experimental and computer modeling techniques to study the connections between brain cells and the way neurons work together in large networks. He works to understand the computational resources of the brain, and tries to link brain function and behavior using computer models.

His talk is the first of many featured events for Research Weeks, which is co-sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation and designed to showcase and amplify the impact of the research, scholarship and creative work contributed by VCU faculty, students, trainees and staff.

In-person and virtual attendance options are available for this event. Virtual attendees will receive a link after registering. A reception will be offered for in-person attendees after the event from 4-5 p.m. Registration is required. For more details or to register, visit here.
