John P. Delaney is the managing director of the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative. He joined CCI in June 2020 after retiring from a 30-year career with the United States Army, most recently as Chief of Staff for Army Cyber Command.
Previously, Delaney served as a senior fellow of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, where he participated in the study, formulation, recommendation, and implementation of United States foreign and defense policy for the Middle East region and in policy forums, programs, and seminars concerning U.S. national security issues in the Middle East with various think tanks.
As a brigade commander for the Army in 2014-16, Delaney was responsible for the health, welfare, training, and professional performance of over 2,200 officers and soldiers and the execution of a $4 million annual operating budget. He supervised personnel, intelligence and security, operations, logistics, and maintenance functions for the Field Artillery School faculty, brigade staff, and students.
He earned a bachelor’s of science in business administration from Elon University, a master of arts in human resource development from Webster University, and a master of science in national security and resource strategy from the National Defense University.
