CCI Researchers Racking Up NSF grants
|
|
Our own CTO Jeff Reed is a co-PI on two National Science Foundation awards that kicked off on Oct. 1.
Here’s a rundown of some notable awards:
-
Secure Wireless-Powered Backscatter Communication for IoT––The PI is CCI Fellow Kai Zeng, associate professor, computer and electrical engineering, George Mason University. This NSF-funded project is part of a larger $1 million international collaboration that includes Georgia Tech and Aalto University in Finland. CCI seed funding helped Zeng produce early-stage results and enabled him to apply for external funding.
-
Open AI Cellular (OAIC): Prototyping Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Control and Testing Systems for Cellular Communications Research––PI is Vijay Shah, assistant professor, cybersecurity engineering, George Mason University. Co-PIs are Jeff Reed, Willis G. Worcester, professor, electrical and computer engineering, and Carl Dietrich, research associate professor, electrical and computer engineering, both of Virginia Tech. They are developing a software infrastructure that spurs research and development on artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled cellular radio networks.
-
Context-Aware Spectrum Coexistence dEsign aNd implemenTation in satellite bands (ASCENT)––Jeff is co-PI on a second collaborative NSF award with Vijay Shah.
This project proposes to create a holistic, multidisciplinary, context-aware spectrum sharing approach to address the spectrum coexistence of broadband wireless systems in satellite bands.
-
Energy-Centric Wireless Sensor Node System for Smart Farms––The PIs are Dong S. Ha, professor, electrical and computer engineering, Virginia Tech, and Swarun Kumar, associate professor, electrical and computer engineering, Carnegie Mellon University. Co-PIs are Jin-Hee Cho, associate professor, computer science, and Robin White, assistant professor, animal and poultry science, both of Virginia Tech. Cybersecurity Protecting Public Health
|
|
Stacks of paper file folders are giving way to digital records, but cyberattack concerns come with this helpful advancement. George Mason University recently addressed the problem of keeping digital records safe from attack. Panelists discussed new vulnerabilities and how collaboration between the public and private sectors are needed to keep patient data safe.
