Get to Know Me

Something that excites me in my field...
is the potential for discovery and innovations in agriculture and life sciences from the convergence of biological sciences, cyber- and physical systems. VT has the breadth of expertise to design security guidelines and strategies needed to protect our domestic and global food supply.

I first discovered my passion for this work…
in 2018, when we organized the Virginia Agricultural and Natural Resources Summit and stakeholders shared their interest in agricultural technology and asked how Virginia Tech could help. We developed the Center for Advanced Innovation in Agriculture and the Virginia Tech SmartFarm Innovation Network®️ as a result of talking with our targeted private industry stakeholders.

Last time I stepped out of my comfort zone...
Speaking as an invited panelist giving testimony to the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense at Biologia et Machina: Cyberbiosecurity for Today’s Hybrid Evolution. The Commission is composed of high profile U.S. political leaders who have led the development of biodefense in the U.S. over the past 25 years.....and also today, as I decide how to answer these questions.
