A Message from the Executive Director
|
|
Dear <<First Name>>,
The creativity that drives cybersecurity was on full display Nov. 4-5 at the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, Va.
About 560 people toured CCI’s first Cyber Arts and Design Exhibit! It was fun, inventive, and insightful and showed how cybersecurity is interwoven into our daily lives in surprising ways. Check out our Flickr account to see photos.
The five funded projects featured artists:
-
Michael McDermott, assistant professor, art, George Mason University
-
Kevin Moberly, program director, Game Design, Development, and Criticism, Old Dominion University
-
Kate Sicchio, assistant professor, dance and media technologies, Virginia Commonwealth University
-
Tanner Upthegrove, an immersive audio specialist, Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) and the Center for Human-Computer Interaction, Virginia Tech
Ben Knapp, founding director of ICAT, and Allison Schumacher, director of academic alchemy at VCU’s da Vinci Center for Innovation, helped guide this research program.

Smart farm cybersecurity is an international concern
|
|
Universities from the CCI Southwest Virginia Node welcomed representatives from the Brazilian National Service for Industrial Training (SENAI) Innovation Institute this month to learn more about collaboration opportunities in smart farm cybersecurity.
“The Brazilian team was very interested in CCI projects — especially ones that involved 5G, smart farm, and IoT security,” said Prem Uppuluri, a Radford University professor and director of the Center for Information Security. “We knew that they would be interested in connecting with the Virginia Tech Center for Advanced Innovation in Agriculture, which is also part of the CCI community.”
Uppuluri and his Radford team are headed to the Pernambuco area of Brazil in January to talk to startups.

The active fall semester is drawing to a close, and I want to take the opportunity to wish everyone a great Thanksgiving! In CCI, we have much to be thankful for, including the CCI community’s creativity and dedication to expanding the cyber frontier.
