CCI researcher leads congressional briefing on encryption

Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) Research Director Eric Burger recently moderated “PGP” (Pretty Good Policy) for Crypto, a congressional briefing on the importance of encryption, to mark Global Encryption Day (Oct. 21).

The event, which featured House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., was supported by a grant from the Internet Society Foundation and organized by the Electric Coin Co.

In addition to facilitating the discussion, Burger provided insight into such topics as the ongoing debate between law enforcement's requests for "backdoors" into encrypted communications for criminal investigations and the cybersecurity risks such backdoors could pose.
