Development and deployment of high throughput and cutting-edge technologies for agricultural production management against the challenges of rising population, climate change, crop infestation, and demand for chemical free food.

Background
Abhilash Chandel is an assistant professor and extension specialist of Precision Agriculture Technologies and Data Management with the Department of Biological Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. He is also an affiliate faculty of the Center for Advanced Innovation in Agriculture at Virginia Tech.

His primary research is development and deployment of high throughput and cutting-edge technologies for agricultural production management against the challenges of rising population, climate change, crop infestation, and demand for chemical free food. His expertise and interest areas include but are not limited to non-invasive sensing (Microscopic, Proximal, Aerial and Satellite-based), Internet-of-things, cloud and edge computing driven decision support systems for production agriculture, smartphone applications for crop monitoring and management, variable rate crop input management, and autonomous and semi-autonomous agricultural machinery systems.

Alma Mater
He received his B. Tech and M. Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He received his PhD in automation engineering domain of biological and agricultural engineering from Washington State University.
