Background

Alberto Cano is associate vice president for research computing  at Virginia Tech as of Nov. 5, 2024. He will lead the Advanced Research Computing unit within the Division of Information Technology

Previously, he was an associate professor with Virginia Commonwealth’s Department of Computer Science, where he heads the High-Performance Data Mining laboratory. He is also the Faculty Director of the High Performance Research Computing Core Facility at VCU.

He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science, and M.Sc. in Intelligent Systems, an M.Sc. in Soft Computing and Intelligent Systems, a B.Sc. in Computer Science, and a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering.
