Research Areas

GeoSocial analysis, pursuing the harvesting of intelligence from open-source content and social media feeds, and digital-image analysis for the harvesting of geolocated or spatiotemporal content from imagery.

Background

Stefanidis is a professor of Computer Science and Director of Data Science at the College of William & Mary, which he joined in 2020.

Before that, he held tenured positions at George Mason University (2007-2020), and the University of Maine (1996-2006), and served as postdoctoral researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (1993 – 1995).

He has written more than 100 fully refereed publications in journals and conference proceedings, and has edited three books. His research activities have been funded by a variety of sources, including DHS, NGA, IARPA, Draper Lab, NSF, NASA, USGS, and the European Union.

Alma Mater

Stefanidis received his Dipl. Eng. from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Ohio State University.
