Get to Know Me

I find the most joy in my work when...
I am able to connect the dots between the results from 2 different fields or research

Something I learned in my research this year that surprised me…
Glial cells in the brain might hold the key to know which neurons can be altered with neuromodulation

I first discovered my passion for this work…
When I was able to use short pulses of magnetic fields to move my hand and stop my speech at a magnetics lab in Cardiff University

University
Virginia Commonwealth University

Research Focus
Magnetic Neuromodulation, High Frequency EM Shielding Materials

Background
Ravi Hadimani an associate professor and the director of Biomagnetics Laboratory at the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Hadimani’s research focus is on biomagnetic materials and devices for biomedical applications and energy harvesting. He has developed a novel brain phantom that mimics electrical properties of the brain and is used for experimental validation of neuromodulation procedures

He has founded the IEEE Joint Magnetics and Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society’s Richmond Chapter and he is the current vice chair of the chapter. He is an associate editor of Frontiers of Neuroscience and American Institute of Physics (AIP) Advances.

He has authored more than 95 peer-reviewed journal publications, more than 190 international conference papers, 10 current and pending patents, several invited trade magazine articles, a book and 3 book chapters to date.

Alma Mater
Hadimani has a ‘first class’ honors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kuvempu University, India, a M.S. in mechatronics from the University of Newcastle, UK, and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Cardiff University, UK.
