Aloizio Pereira da Silva

5G Testbed Director

Aloizio Pereira da Silva is the CCI 5G Testbed director. The testbed will help speed up advancements in 5G and beyond by providing researchers, government, and industry a destination to try and validate new approaches.

Da Silva’s areas of interest include wireless networks, 5G and beyond, as well as software defined networks (SDN), software defined radio (SDR), network function virtualization (NFV), Internet of Things (IoT), Smart City, and mobile edge computing (MEC).  He also has a background in deep-space communication intersecting with delay and disruption tolerant networks (DTNs).

Da Silva draws upon his experience at the Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) program to develop the CCI 5G Testbed. He was the technical project manager and researcher associate at US-IGNITE/NSF PAWR PPO where he managed and orchestrated PAWR testbeds, including AERPAW, POWDER  and COSMOS. PAWR is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and a wireless industry consortium of 35 companies and associations. The $100 million public-private partnership aims to deploy and manage up to four city-scale research testbeds. He was also engaged in the rural broadband testbed under project planning ARANET and NEXTT.

Da Silva earned his bachelor of science degree in computer science from the Pontificia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais, master of science (MSc) in computer science from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, master of business administration (MBA) in project management from the Fundação Getúlio Vargas and Babson Executive College, and Ph.D in computer engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica.
