Laura Freeman is a research associate professor in the Statistics Department at Virginia Tech and director of the Intelligent Systems Lab in the Hume Center for National Security and Technology. She is also assistant dean of research for Virginia Tech's College of Science in the National Capital Region and director of information science and analytics for Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation (VT-ARC).
Her research interests include experimental design considerations in machine learning and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity analytics, reliability analysis, and statistical engineering.
In 2017 she received the Andrew J. Goodpaster Award for Excellence in Research from the Institute for Defense Analyses.
Freeman is a member of the International Test and Evaluation Association, the National Defense Industrial Association, and the American Statistical Association. She received all of her degrees from Virginia Tech: a B.S. in aerospace engineering with a minor in mathematics in 2005; and an M.S. and Ph.D., both in statistics, in 2006 and 2010 respectively.
